Whether you’re visiting San Francisco for work or pleasure, a stay at Hotel Zephyr is a must. Located in the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf, this eclectic property — which describes itself as “ship-yard chic” — offers unique amenities and a stand-out style. Check out our full review below.

What You Need to Know

The Look of Hotel Zephyr

From the outside, Hotel Zephyr looks like any typical urban hotel; however, don’t judge a book by its cover. Once you step inside the property, prepare to be wowed by the indoor and outdoor public spaces, which have a neat nautical theme that pays homage to the Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood. As part of the aesthetic, design elements include recycled cargo containers, upcycled nautical goods, and portholes. You’ll also find bold artwork and contemporary decor. The same theme carries into the guest rooms, which have portholes, pops of blue and red, and throw blankets that read “SOS.”

The Vibe at Hotel Zephyr

While San Francisco has so much to offer visitors, so does the hotel itself. As such, it’s not uncommon to find guests lingering around the property throughout the duration of the day — especially in the mornings and evenings. Most guests can be found hanging in The Yard, a sprawling 8,000-square-foot outdoor space complete with life-size games (including Connect 4, shuffleboard, beautiful sculptures, firepits, and San Francisco’s largest periscope, which offers exceptional bay views).

Those who prefer a hotel with a more laid-back, understated ambiance may seek alternate accommodations. Since the rooms are on the smaller size, it's not ideal for larger groups.

The Yard is easily the hotel’s best amenity, followed by the 800-square-foot indoor game room,  where you can play pool, ping-pong, or tabletop shuffleboard. There’s also a photo booth and interactive artwork.
